Of late, I’ve been a stranger to my emotions; unable to really write, or put across what I really feel. I wonder if this restraint is intentional or an indication that I’m not in tune with what I really feel. However, “Nothing But Memories,” is an attempt at me putting out what I think memories are, and what they mean, long after, the ones we shared those memories with, are long gone. Each stanza, is an exploration of different situations, and what they would eventually mean; because people come and go, but memories; memories are things you carry with you for a lifetime.
Nothing But Memories
Forever;
In the end,
Is a word meant for memories,
Not people;
There are those who came and went,
Those who came with the promise of an eternity,
But only stayed long enough;
To form attachments that eventually faded;
There are those we held in our arms;
Long enough for their scent to remain with us,
Long after they had left,
For us to be reminded of their presence;
There are those whose texts are now archived,
Or stored in the cloud,
As mementos,
Of what liking someone deeply, once felt like,
There are also those we hurt,
Long after making promises,
We thought we could keep,
Only for us to be the cause of their pain,
Lastly,
There are those we lost;
The ones we hold in pictures;
And only remember through memories.
