“We Thrive In This,” is about the cycles we go through after our hearts have been broken, and all we have felt for a while; is nothing but pain. It’s about the conscious decisions we make to ensure that we never feel that pain, or heartbreak, ever again.
At times, maybe, the decisions we make, are a little bit extreme, but for the moment, this is how we begin to be okay; this is how our emotions begin to find their balance. This is how we begin to heal.
We Thrive In This
It’s what you do when your heart is broken;
You avoid love,
Like the plague;
You see attachment,
And it scares you;
It’s what you feel;
That heartbreak;
That pain;
And the resolve,
To not have your heart broken into pieces ever again;
So, we keep our hearts guarded;
We never allow ourselves to be vulnerable,
We try to avoid attachment;
And we don’t allow people,
To get too close;
It’s a version of trauma;
That our emotions push us towards;
It’s the avoidance of pain;
Through the feeling of pain;
We don’t see this cycle we are looping in;
Heartbreak on the surface;
Is caused by unmet expectations;
The higher they are,
The more the pain we feel,
In its aftermath;
So, we keep our hearts guarded;
We close in,
And barely let anyone into our space;
We thrive in this;
Because we feel safe.
